Good morning Oxford and Ole Miss!

We welcome back the students from spring break with a chilly 36 degrees on this Monday morning. The high for today will be 57 with a low of 36 for the area.

The skies are clear and sunny, and will remain so until Thursday as a possible thunderstorm moves in the area. However, the sun will pop back up on Friday for a pretty Easter weekend.

FROST ADVISORY

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has issued a frost advisory in effect for all areas except those along the immediate coast until March 22 at 8 a.m.

As a cold front lingers across Mississippi this week, certain parts of the state will experience near freezing temperatures, which increases levels humidity levels over the night and early Tuesday morning. Dropping temperatures and a light wind will contribute to a frost over areas of southeast Mississippi.

The impact of frost will produce possible damage to early spring vegetation.

North Mississippi: FLOOD WARNINGS

A flood warning remains in effect for Quitman and Tallahatchie Counties, as rivers and bayous back up from other draining flood areas.

“The flood warning continues for the Coldwater River, Obion River, S.F. Fork Forked Deer River and Tallahatchie River,” MEMA said. “The flood warning continues for the Coldwater River at Marks.”

According to MEMA, the flood warning for Quitman County will remain in effect until further notice, and the warning for Tallahatchie will remain until Friday, March 25. MEMA said moderate flooding is occurring and expects more moderate flooding to come.

If flood waters are rising near you, MEMA encourages you to take these steps:

• Fill sinks, bathtubs and jugs with clean water in case water becomes contaminated.
• Listen to a battery-operated radio for the latest storm information.
• If local authorities instruct you to turn off all utilities and close your main gas valve, do so immediately.
• If told to evacuate your home, do so immediately.
• If water starts to rise inside your house before you evacuate, retreat to the second floor, attic or your roof if necessary.
• If you come in contact with floodwater, wash your hands with soap and disinfected water. Floodwater may carry raw sewage, chemical waste and other infectious substances.
• Avoid walking through floodwater. As little as six inches of moving water can knock you off your feet.
• Never drive through a flood area or rising water.
• Avoid downed power lines because electric currents pass easily through water.
• Look out for animals, especially snakes. Animals lose their homes in floods too.
