Hope Clayburn and Soul Scrimmage Set for Two Oxford Performances This Thursday

Hope Clayburn and her band, Soul Scrimmage, will be busy in Oxford on Thursday evening as the Memphis-based band performs two shows; the Thacker Mountain Radio Hour at the Lyric Theater and In the Hall; a stripped down intimate acoustic showcase at the McDavid Law Office, located at 1109 Van Buren.

Hope’s funky saxophone and flute chops mixed with her soulful rock vocals have allowed her to perform with an eclectic mix of artists, including James Brown, The Allman Brothers Band, The Temptations and The North Mississippi Allstars – to name a few.

Following her Thacker Mountain Radio Hour performance, Clayburn will perform an acoustic set at 8 p.m. at the Music in the Hall space. Although her first performance at Thacker Mountain Radio is free and open to the public, her In the Hall set requires a small donation to help support the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council.

“The set will be a stripped down version of Music in the Hall and will take place at the law offices of Steve McDavid after the Thacker Mountain Radio Hour,” YAC director Wayne Andrews said. “The intimate concert series will focus more on the house concert – or in this case law office concert – with more of an acoustic vibe in the relaxed environment.”

Clayburn and her band just released a 6 song EP called Love is on The Way that features all original music inspired from the jams or scrimmages the band would play at a weekly gig at the now defunct Full Moon Club in Memphis.

“Guests are encouraged to make a suggested donation of $10 which will benefit two local charities: Horizons program and the Arts Council,” Andrews explained. “Those familiar with the Music in the Hall series will be familiar with the experience; which is a chance to relax, claim a seat, enjoy the refreshments you brought and hear great live music.”
