Handwritten 'Hail State' Note Threatens Grove Trees

Just a few days before many Mississippians head to Oxford for the long-awaited Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State, university officials are on high alert before anyone even arrives.
A handwritten note threatening the Grove trees and shrubs was discovered today, and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials are looking into the note, signed “Hail State.” The note was given to the Jackson bureau office by University Police Chief Calvin Sellers. Sellers said the note was mailed to “UPD Chief” with no name.
The note reads:
“What’s going to happen to ya’ll on the field Saturday Ain’t nothing compared to what’s going to happen to your beautiful campus. You won’t be one of the most pretty campus’s Next year. A lot of shrubs and trees are going to die; especially in the grove. Can’t stop us.
“Hail State Go to Hell TSUN”
Though Sellers said they receive threatening letters in the mail often, but the university is taking this note seriously because of the timing and the fact that the threat can easily be carried out discreetly.
“We don’t feel like this is a threat to the safety of our fans,” Sellers said. “It’s safe for you to come to our campus and go to the ballgame.”
Sellers also said a heightened police presence will be felt in the Grove this weekend because of the note and magnitude of the Egg Bowl.
