Pro basketball has traditionally been down on the sports priority list in Oxford, but did you know the NBA franchise in Memphis enters its fourth straight playoff run this weekend?
The Grizzlies finished up the 2013/14 season with a record of 50-32, and they’re the seventh seed in the Western Conference as they take on the No. 2 seed Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round.
Over the past two season’s, the Grizzlies have turned up their game in the middle of the year to peak just at playoff time.
Their home court, the FedEx Forum is known as he Grind House and its one of the most feared venues by opposing teams. Memphis players call the extra energy their building gives them the “grit and grind” factor. Sell-out frenzied fans add to the raucous atmosphere.
Many Grizzly fans stand during the whole game twirling their “Believe Memphis” towels above their head as the Grizzlies take control on their home court.
Last season, Memphis was one win away from taking the Bluff City to the NBA Championship series. Saturday night, this talented NBA team only 70 miles away from Oxford, begins their hunt for the NBA championship and recognition as the best basketball team in the world. The Grizzlies play in Oklahoma City at 8:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
