Ole Miss’ Will Gleeson played in his first ever American football game last Thursday at the Georgia Dome, and the results were more than favorable.
The Rebels’ redshirt-freshman punter from Melbourne, Australia, showed power and accuracy in the team’s 35-13 win over Boise State, which earned him national honors from a pair of organizations.
Gleeson was tabbed Ray Guy Award Player of the Week by the Augusta Sports Council and also National Punter of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.
Gleeson, who grew up playing Australian-rules football, punted four times for 189 yards in his collegiate debut. He averaged 47.25 yards per punt, pinned three inside the 20-yard line, and had a net punting average of 47.7 yards. Gleeson’s longest punt was a 70-yard bomb that sailed over the Bronco punt returner’s head.
