OXFORD, Miss. – The Associated Student Body invites all students to join the Everybody’s Tent tailgate Saturday (Sept. 7) in the Grove before the Rebels’ first home football game against Southeast Missouri.

Everybody’s Tent will be set up in the grass along the Union Plaza, tucked as close to the Walk of Champions arch as available. Free food and nonalcoholic drinks will be provided from 2 to 5 p.m.

Everybody’s Tent is a student-led, student-organized tailgate sponsored by the Associated Student Body. The idea for Everybody’s Tent was born from a student’s desire to help make everyone feel welcome in the Grove.

“Last fall, I was involved in a similar project which brought to my attention a number of students who have a passion for their university, yet feel excluded from the rich tailgating tradition simply because they do not have a tent in the Grove,” said William Fowler, a junior majoring in integrated marketing communications who also is executive assistant to the ASB president. “We want to make the experience accessible to everyone, particularly the students who lack a place to call home in the Grove.”

Alumni, faculty, staff and friends are also invited to stop by Everybody’s Tent to meet students and welcome newcomers to the Ole Miss family. ASB cabinet members will be on hand to distribute the popular “I am a Rebel” stickers.

“Our goal is for Everybody’s Tent to become a regular stop for guests from every student organization on campus – think of it as a social representation of the entire student body itself,” Fowler said. “This is an opportunity to really come together as one university, celebrate our multicultural backgrounds and to do it on the treasured grounds of the Grove.”

The schedule for Everybody’s Tent includes four home games: Sept. 7, against Southeast Missouri; Oct. 12, Texas A&M; Oct. 26, Idaho (Homecoming) and Nov. 16, Troy.
