Early Swayze Start for Rebel Baseball Devoted to Kids
The Ole Miss Rebel baseball team plays host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff today in a kids day game at Swayze Field. First pitch is set for 11a.m.
Ole Miss (21-8) is still hanging on to the top-25 this week topping out at No. 16 in the Coaches poll, despite their lost weekend in Tuscaloosa. The Rebels look to rebound after dropping all four games last week. Over the weekend, Ole Miss came up on the wrong side of two one-run games against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
As a club, the Rebels enter the game ranked fourth in the SEC in batting with a .298 average. They’re second in home runs with 20 and fifth in runs scored with 170 runs. While three members of the team are ranked in the top five of the conference in hits: Auston Bousfield (2nd-41), Austin Anderson (T4th-40) and Will Allen (6th-39).
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (8-19) rolls into Oxford after losing a series at home to Texas Southern. The Lions are lead at the plate this season by Isias Alcantar, who is hitting at a .293 clip with two home runs and 18 RBI.
UAPB is hitting only .222 as a team, with four homer runs and 95 RBI on the year.
The Lions will send senior Kyle Schwartz to the mound. While coach Mike Bianco calls on freshman southpaw Evan Anderson for the Rebels.
Ole Miss and UAPB have only faced each other on the diamond three times and the Rebels won all three. The first-ever meeting dates back to the 2009 season when Ole Miss bombed the Lions by the score of 22-2.
Fans who can’t make it out to Swayze for this early game can watch every pitch on Rebelvision.com or listen to it on the Ole Miss Baseball Network.
If you do come to the game, you’ll be sharing the experience with some excited youngsters who may even be enjoying their first baseball game. It’ll be a thrilling afternoon for all involved.
