Rebel Nation Hungry For A Bowl Game

The Ole Miss Rebel fan base has purchased a record number of tickets to the BBVA Compass Bowl on January 5th, where the Rebels will face off against the Pittsburg Panthers.
Rebel fans have demolished all Compass Bowl records in ticket sales — selling 23,381 tickets thus far, which is what happens when a team has been in the desert for two years.
While the recent Cotton Bowl victories are not forgotten, the previous two seasons have left a sour taste in the mouths of Rebel fans everywhere.
After the ticket office sold the 10,000 allotment, the University received more tickets from the Compass Bowl as well as a few thousand seats left over from Pittsburgh’s cache of bowl tickets.
Some Rebel fans are buying straight from the bowl site as well.  Fans are expected to buy more after the holidays are over. Combine that with cheaper ticket prices from online sites, and it’s not hard to imagine seeing thirty to forty thousands Rebel fans cheering on Coach Freeze’s high octane offense.
“We expected the Rebel Nation to come out in full force for the BBVA Compass Bowl, and we could not be prouder of the crowd we will have in Birmingham,” said Athletics Director Ross Bjork. “This outpouring of support only furthers the momentum of our football program and our reputation as one of the most attractive bowl teams in the nation. The challenge to Rebel Nation to break the BBVA Compass Bowl attendance record has been heard loud and clear.”
Pittsburgh will be playing in a bowl for the third-straight year, so that may be an issue in their slow ticket sales. While the Panthers may have apathy at this point regarding the Compass Bowl, Rebel Nation is proud to be there, and expects to have a good showing on the field.
Not bad for a team that won two games a year ago and was predicted to be last in the 14-team Southeastern Conference. The future is bright.
