The new hotel under construction at the intersection of University Avenue and South Lamar, Chancellor’s House, will lift a magnolia tree onto its rooftop at 11:00 a.m. on March 30.

Senior Account Executive of A. Brown Olmstead Associates, a public relations firm, Justin Wood said, “We are now coordinating a ‘Topping Out’ photo shoot for Wednesday, March 30, at 11:00 a.m. This ‘topping out’ will feature lifting a beautiful Magnolia tree, the state’s official tree, to the rooftop alongside the hard hat crew from Carothers Construction. This will be the signal that Chancellor’s House is nearing its opening.”

The topping-out ceremony is an old construction tradition, according to Slate.com. Placing the tree is associated with the raising of the building’s highest beam or structural element, hence the inspiration of the name: the topping-out ceremony.

Although the completion date cannot be confirmed, the Chancellor’s House is currently booking reservations for the football season on www.ChancellorsHouse.com.
