The new hospital will better serve Oxford’s health needs. Ground-breaking took place Oct. 29.

Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi broke ground today on its new replacement facility to be located at 1100 Belk Boulevard in Oxford.
The new five-story hospital will have 602,831 square feet, including 217 beds with more comprehensive medical and surgical services. The patient rooms will be 50 percent larger providing patients and family members a more spacious and comfortable room. The emergency department will be expanded to more than 31,000 square feet, with 35 rooms.
When Baptist became affiliated with the Oxford facility in 1989, the system committed to expanding the facility into a regional referral center. Since then Baptist has invested more than $160 million into the current facility and grown the medical staff from 20 to more than 120 physicians.

The tables were set for a celebratory ground-breaking ceremony yesterday.

The level of care has transformed the hospital into a regional referral center, offering open-heart surgery and a wealth of other high-level services. “With the growth our area has experienced in the last decade, building a newer, updated hospital to serve the community became an easy decision,” said Bill Henning, administrator and CEO of Baptist North Mississippi. “Baptist North Mississippi will continue to offer the right care in the right location, allowing patients to stay close to home while receiving high-level care.” Baptist North Mississippi has been working with officials since 2009 on building a new replacement hospital for Oxford, Lafayette county and the surrounding area.
The new hospital campus represents the single largest economic development event in the history of Oxford and Lafayette County and will further position Baptist North Mississippi as a regional referral center, providing greater accessibility for patients and space to expand services for generations to come. According to the Sparks Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Memphis, the FY2012 economic impact of Baptist North Mississippi was estimated at a total production of goods and services (output) value of over $241.2 million; total salaries, wages, and benefits of $92.0 million; 2,141 full- and part-time jobs; and state and local taxes of $9.0 million. Baptist North Mississippi is a 217-bed hospital that offers a variety of services, including cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, the Baptist Cancer Center and a 24-hour emergency room.
