Federal prosecutors have dismissed all charges against Paul Kevin Curtis, the Corinth, Mississippi, man accused in a federal complaint with sending threatening, ricin-laced letters to President Barack Obama, Sen. Roger Wicker and a Mississippi justice official.
In a reversal order filed this afternoon, Assistant U.S. Attorney William Lamar said charges against Curtis were dismissed because “the ongoing investigation has revealed new information.”
Following the release of Curtis on Tuesday afternoon, FBI agents reportedly visited the home of Everett Dutschke, a man that Curtis defense attorney Christi McCoy identified in federal court Monday as someone who could have been responsible for mailing the letters.
Dutschke, a former Republican candidate for the Mississippi House of Representatives and the owner of a Taekwondo studio in Tupelo, Mississippi, has denied any involvement.
“The government was able to find another suspect that we believe is responsible for these heinous crimes,” McCoy told reporters at a press conference in front of the federal courthouse in Oxford late Tuesday.
