Northwest Community College Homecoming Sept. 20

Students, faculty, staff, Northwest alumni and friends of the college are invited to the Senatobia campus on Saturday, Sept. 20, as Northwest Mississippi Community College holds its homecoming game and festivities.
The classes of 1954, 1964 and 1974 will be honored along with the Northwest Alumnus of the Year, James Dunn, Tunica County Supervisor and president of the Northwest Foundation. The Northwest Singers will provide entertainment for the event.
For the first time during Homecoming festivities, Northwest will induct new members of the Sports Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees are basketball greats Detric Golden and Shantell Atkins-Brown and football/baseball double threat Ben Evans.
Golden played for the Rangers from 1995 to 1997, and holds the record for career points scored at 1,223. He had 192 steals and 642 assists during his career. He was named All-MAJCJ and went on to play at Troy State University. Atkins-Brown scored a career 33 points against Vol State in 1994 and was named All MACJC in 1994-1995. Evans shone during his baseball career at Northwest earning NCJAA All–Region honors, All-Eastern Division honors and was the all- time Batting champion during the 1976 and 1977 seasons.
There will be meet and greet time for alumni and friends in the David M. Haraway Center from 10 to 11:30 a.m. during which time campus tours will also be available.
There are two options for lunch during homecoming, and reservations are needed for both. The homecoming picnic will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria. The serving time for the homecoming celebration luncheon will from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by the Homecoming Celebration program at noon. The deadline to make reservations for lunch is Aug. 29. On homecoming day at 1:30 p.m., the pre-game show will begin at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers will take on the Itawamba Indians in the game beginning at 2 p.m. The 2014 Homecoming Court will be introduced, and a new queen from each campus will be crowned during halftime festivities.
Northwest students are invited to a week packed full of activities leading up to Homecoming on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Homecoming nominations from all campuses are due Friday, Sept. 5, and voting will take place Wednesday, Sept. 10 through Friday, Sept. 12. Students will receive information for voting via Northwest webmail.
There will be a homecoming carnival at the Ranger Outdoor Complex (ROC) on the Senatobia campus on Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. The annual homecoming lunch will be Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Oxford campus.
On Thursday, September 18, the Ranger Baseball team will host a fall doubleheader at 3 p.m. at Jim Miles Field. That evening from 8 to 11 p.m., students are invited to the homecoming dance in the North Gym on the Senatobia Campus. On Friday, Sept. 19, the DeSoto Center will host a homecoming cookout on the front lawn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
