After a dismal display of basketball last week, the Southeastern Conference’s 14 teams picked things up a little bit this week, going a combined 20-7.
However, the conference was unable to pick up some wins against quality competition.
No. 8 Florida lost their second game of the year, dropping a 67-61 contest to Kansas State. LSU lost to Marquette on the road to miss on an opportunity to get a resume-building win.
The league also had some bad losses like Mercer over Alabama, Indiana State over Ole Miss and Winthrop over Auburn.
Georgia and Missouri hold claim to the most impressive wins of the week with the Bulldogs’ 64-56 win over Southern California and the Tigers 82-73 win over Illinois.
The Week Ahead
The league’s 14 teams have just three games during the week before a full slate of contests on Saturday.
Ole Miss opens things up on Christmas Day with a matchup against Hawaii in their third and final game of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.
The game of the week will be Kentucky facing off with in-state rival No. 5 Louisville on the road. The Wildcats haven’t been as crisp as some expected, but a win over the Cardinals would be huge to get John Calipari’s squad back in the national mix.
Other notable contests include Missouri and UCLA Friday night, Auburn at Illinois Saturday and Butler at Vanderbilt Saturday.
