Cochran's Character, Experience, is Best for Mississippi

 

Pearce Crosland is vice chairman of Ole Miss College Republicans. He is currently the director of the Rebels for Thad Cochran campaign in Oxford. Crosland says “I’m personally tired of all the mudslinging that’s been taking place on both sides of the campaign, so I wanted to write an article free of attacks and negativity —  just a simple positive statement about why I support Thad.
Throughout the course of this Senate election, one thing has become increasingly clear — no one truly knows who Thad Cochran is. Now, obviously we all know he serves Mississippi in the United States Senate, but no one seems to actually care about the person he is — his love for Mississippi, his motives, his character.
Some have called him a “Washington insider” and figure head. Senator Cochran has been constantly criticized for being too “low key” too willing to compromise, but why? This campaign has been turned into a fight for “justice” and “liberty,” when it should be a fight for the people of Mississippi.
Hasn’t Mississippi consistently benefitted from the tireless efforts Senator Cochran puts forth? Thad loves Mississippi more than anyone, never makes rash decisions, never votes for legislation that harms this state, and has immense loyalty and dedication to those he serves. Kind of like your trusty hunting dog we call “man’s best friend,” Senator Cochran is “Mississippi’s Best Friend” — always by our side, calm and collected, yet isn’t afraid to show his teeth and prepare to strike at the first sign of threat.
Anyone can go fact finding and see Senator Cochran has done more for Mississippi than anyone else in this state’s history. Anyone can go Google “What’s Thad done for Mississippi?” and read articles about the millions of dollars’ worth of research that is conducted at the Thad Cochran Research Center at Ole Miss. This research plays a vital role in developing one of the world’s leading cancer-fighting drugs.
You’ll also find articles highlighting his extensive work with the Farm Bill benefitting our farming families who make up over 30 percent of our work force, or even articles about how Senator Cochran has helped establish and fund hospitals across the state, including University Medical Center in Jackson where Dr. Hannah Gay has cured two children with HIV.
What people cannot Google, though, are the personal interactions and relationships Senator Cochran has built with the people of Mississippi. He is someone who truly cares about Mississippi and those he represents. You don’t see Thad traveling around preaching “justice,” “liberty,” and a one-size-fits-all approach to governing. You don’t see Thad gallivanting to Kentucky with “celebrities” like Glenn Beck speaking to people who can’t even vote for him. No, you see Thad walking through the fields of a small, family farm with a farmer whose name is likely not known to anyone but Senator Cochran. You see him talking to our men and women in uniform humbly thanking them for their service and asking what he can do for them in return for their sacrifices. You see Thad sitting down to talk with folks all walks because he truly cares about the lives of EVERY Mississippian.
I know you’ve all read, or at least seen, articles about everything Thad has done for Mississippi, and I would like to encourage you to read one if you haven’t already. While the policies and decisions he makes are immeasurably important, what is equally important is how and why he represents us. Senator Cochran is not a loud “mover” or “shaker” wanting to go to Washington to fight battles he cannot win.
Just because he didn’t read “Green Eggs and Ham” with Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate does not mean he hasn’t stood up and fought for our state and our values time and time again. Thad is looking out and fighting each and every day for each and every Mississippian. Mississippi does not need a show horse, Mississippi needs a work horse, and we have one — his name is Senator Thad Cochran, Mississippi’s best friend.
