Rebels Drop Opener to Ragin' Cajuns, 9-5
Despite getting off to an early 3-0 lead, sloppy play, bases on balls and Ragin’ Cajun home runs proved too much for the Rebels in a 9-5 loss to Louisiana Lafayette in the first game of the Super Regional.
The home crowd advantage at Tigue Moore Field proved formidable as the small ballpark couldn’t contain Louisiana Lafayette home runs by Tyler Girouard and Dylan Butler.
The usually sure-gloved Auston Bousfield dropped an easy fly ball in shot center that led directly to a run.
Another Rebel who just found out he has been drafted in professional baseball also performed less than his best in the loss. Chris Ellis went 2-plus innings giving up only 1 hit, but 5 runs (4 earned) and 3 walks.
The Rebels nearly matched Louisiana Lafayette in hits, 10-11, but the Ragin’ Cajuns seemed to get all the timely hits. The walks, hit batsmen and wild pitches given up by the Rebels only added to the game getting out of hand.
Tomorrow’s contest is at 8 p.m. and the Rebels season will be on the line. Christian Trent will start for Ole Miss.
