The Oxford Daily Crime Report for May 27
On Friday, May 23, the Oxford Police Department arrested Joshua Covacevich (26) of Biloxi, Miss. for malicious mischief felony. On Saturday, May 4 a victim reported that Covacevich threw red wine on her wedding dress. The victim signed felony malicious mischief charges on Covacevich.
Covacevich was arrested and given a bond of $1,500.
Over Memorial Day weekend, the Oxford Police Department respond to 16 alarms, nine disturbances, six suspicious activities, eight noise complaints, two careless drivers, three petit larcenies, five welfare concerns, an auto burglary, two code violations, shoplifting, four ambulance assists, an animal assist, four public intoxications, four lost property, two fire assists, a parking compliant, two assaults and a house burglary.
OPD also issued 142 traffic citations and made 14 arrests: failure to yield at a stop sign and DUI 1st; no tag and DUI 1st; possession of drug paraphernalia; wrong way on a one way and DUI 1st; no driver’s license and no proof of insurance; no driver’s license; obstructing traffic and DUI 1st; noise violation; no seat belt, no proof of insurance and driving while license suspended; driving while license suspended and DUI 1st; no driver’s license and no child restraint; no seat belt and DUI 1st; and no driver’s license.
The Oxford Fire Department received four calls over the weekend including a general fire alarm malfunction at Kate Cove; a smoke detector was activated on the third floor of Lamar Hall during a staff cleaning; construction workers burned trash materials in a dumpster on West Jackson Ave.; the heat detector malfunctioned in the mechanical room in the basement of Ventress Hall.

Friday, May 23
Investigated a suspicious vehicle on Coliseum Drive; stopped a vehicle for running a stop sign on All American Dr.; provided fire assistance at the Campus Walk Apartments; investigated a suspicious vehicle at the Lucky Day Residential College; served a warrant at the Natural Products Center; investigated vandalism to a vehicle at the Inn at Ole Miss; and stopped a vehicle on Fraternity Row for speeding.
Saturday, May 24
Stopped a vehicle on Hathorn Road for broken taillights, and stopped three vehicles on Hathorn Road for speeding.
Sunday, May 25
Issued moving violations for a suspended license, not implied consent, and DUI on Coliseum Drive; provided ambulance assistance at the Inn at Ole Miss; stopped two vehicles on Hathorn Road for speeding; and issued citations on the Intramural Fields Road for improper equipment and speeding.
Monday, May 26
Issued moving violations for careless driving on Hathorn Road and for running a stop sign on Coliseum Drive.
