Rebels Drop SEC Tournament Game to Arkansas 2-1
Ole Miss fell 2-1 to the Arkansas Razorback on Day Two of the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Ala. today.
The Rebels (40-17 overall) came into the tournament on top of the conference in batting average, but had trouble landing the key hits against Arkansas.
Arkansas jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Rebels off a bases-loaded, fielder’s-choice from Brian Anderson.
The Ole Miss starting pitcher Chris Ellis then settled in and did not allow the Razorbacks to score another run until the sixth. Ellis picked up his first loss of the season. He worked 6.1 giving up two runs on seven hits.
The Rebels were never able to capitalize on the few hits they earned off of Razorback starter Chris Oliver.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Rebels were able to scratch across one run, as Sikes Orvis singled and then moved to third on back-to-back wild pitches. Then Colby Bortles delivered an RBI single to bring Orvis home.
Coach Mike Bianco called on Scott Weathersby to pitch in relief for the Rebels. Weathersby did not allow another run to score the rest of the game.
Ole Miss will return to the field Thursday at 9:30 a.m. to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores.
