Memorial Service Honors Fallen Law Enforcement Heroes
Oxford High School Junior ROTC Posts the colors.
The Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony was held today in Oxford against a backdrop of inspiring speeches and poignant patriotic pageantry.
The Oxford High School Junior ROTC Marine Corps Color Guard opened the event at the Chancery Building before stirring speeches by Mayor Pat Patterson and Law Enforcement chaplain Fish Robinson.
Chaplain Fish stressed repeatedly in his remarks that law enforcement is not a job — it’s a calling. He mentioned several Mississippi officers who have given their lives in recent months, adding “They laid down their lives, which mean they did it voluntarily, many times for complete strangers.” The chaplain who prefers to be called simply Fish, quoted scripture saying, “No greater love has a man than he lay down his life for his friends.”

Mayor Patterson echoed Winston Churchill’s words that rarely has a group of dedicated professionals given so much for so few.
In conclusion, the ceremony moved outside for an 21-gun salute and the playing of taps at the flag site.
