Ole Miss Travels to Kentucky Blue Grass on Wildcat Hunt

This weekend the Ole Miss Rebel baseball team travels to the Commonwealth of Kentucky to take on the Wildcats in Lexington in a three-game SEC series tilt.
No. 12 Ole Miss (30-12, 10-8 SEC) enters the weekend third in the SEC west. After dropping last weekend’s series at home to the LSU Tigers. Last Tuesday night, the Rebels lost a non-conference matchup to in-state rival Mississippi State 8-3 in the annual Governors Cup.
The Rebels are led in hitting by junior Auston Bousfield with a .344 average. While senior Sikes Orvis leads the team in home runs with nine. Orvis also has a 16-game conference hitting streak coming into the weekend.
Ole Miss senior catcher Will Allen leads the club in RBI with 42 on the season. That also ranks him second in the league in RBI.
Three Rebel players rank in the top sixth of the SEC in hits: Bousfield (1st–62), Anderson (T6th–56) and Allen (T6th–56).
No. 17 Kentucky (27-14, 9-9 SEC) comes into the weekend after a mid-week win over Tennessee Tech and a weekend series win over Texas A&M. The Wildcats are led at the plate, by A.J. Reed who has a .375 average with 16 home runs and 55 RBI. That number also leads the conference.
As a club, Big Blue is hitting .312 on the year. They lead the SEC in average and home runs with 39.
Coach Mike Bianco will send pitchers Chris Ellis (Friday), Christian Trent (Saturday) and Sam Smith (Sunday) to the mound for the Rebels. While the Wildcats will hurl A.J. Reed (Friday), Dylan Dwyer (Saturday) and Andrew Nelson (Sunday). Reed and Dwyer are both southpaw pitchers.
Ole Miss and Kentucky are no strangers to one another on the diamond. They have met 75 total times in their storied history. The Rebels do lead the total series at 44-31, but in the last meeting the Wildcats took the series 2-1.
