Rebel Baseball Cracks Top Ten in Coaches' Poll
So far this season, the Ole Miss baseball team answers the call each and every time they hit the diamond. In fact, for the past eight weeks straight, the Rebels found themselves firmly planted in the top 25 polls.
Today, Coach Mike Bianco’s squad reached the USA Today’s Coaches’ Poll top ten for the second time this season. The Rebels are No. 10 right behind the Louisville Cardinals and just three spots behind this weekend’s opponent: LSU.
The Rebels went 4-1 last week. The lone loss came from Miss. State in a ten-inning battle in Starkville on Saturday on Super Bulldog Weekend in front of 15,586 fans, a record breaking NCAA on-campus attendance. Ole Miss won the seriesĀ on Sunday 12-2, however.
The previous record was held by Miss. State and Florida for nearly 25 years. That number was 14,991, nearly 600 people less than this weekend.
The Bayou Bengals are coming to Oxford this weekend for a clash of two top-ten rivals and Ole Miss is looking to pack Swayze Field for another SEC baseball weekend. The good news: So far this season, the Rebels have only lost two games at home and are undefeated at home in conference play.
