This event is presented by VOX PRESS to bring about awareness of its Prison Writes Initiative, a creative writing program designed especially for Mississippi prison inmates. Judith Tannenbaum is an expert on teaching creative writing in maximum security prisons. Her book Disguised as a Poem is a highly acclaimed memoir about her experience teaching poetry writing at San Quentin prison during the 1980s. Crowd discussion with the author is highly encouraged.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event starts at 7. The event’s musical guest is Oxford-based Mayflower of Death. There is no cover for admission. Food and drink will be available for a small donation.
VOX Press is a not-for-profit organization supported in part by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council, The Mississippi Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Contact Louis Bourgeois at 662-816-4775 or louis-bourgeois@hotmail.com. Click here for more information.
