Winning Artist in Student Art Show is Prodigy at Age 3
More than 300 people gathered at the Powerhouse last night to enjoy creations by young artists in the biggest showing yet for the Student Art Show.
The People’s Choice Award went to a 3-year-old painter for a work called “The Future”
“Artists ranged from 2 to 18,” said Americorps/Vista volunteer Stacey Sanford. “”Most of the kids were from Lafayette County, but participants came from as far away as Collierville, Tenn.”
The show was held at a reception following the Oxford Art Crawl and was sponsored by the Oxford Artists’ Guild, YAC and Chick-fil-A
In addition to paintings in acrylic, oil, water color and chalk, entries included drawings and sculpture.
A jury awarded prizes in all age categories before judging was thrown open to the entire crowd for the People’s Choice selection.
“I am very excited and the student show is is my personal favorite event,” Sanford said. “We had to enlist more volunteers because the entries kept coming and coming. This reflects the fact that the Oxford community wants to be involved in the arts and they especially want their children to be involved.”
