SEC Has 5 Women's Teams Left in Women's Hoops Tourney

The Southeastern Conference has five teams remaining in the NCAA Women’s Tournament advancing to the Sweet 16. The teams are: South Carolina, Tennessee, LSU, Texas A&M and Kentucky.
Every season the SEC can expect one or two teams to make a deep run in tournament play — usually to end up against UConn for the national championship. This year’s field included eight SEC women’s teams punching thie rticket for the Big Dance.
The first weekend of action was tough for Vanderbilt, Georgia and Florida. Vandy and Georgia both fell to their opponents in the first round. The Lady Gators defeated Dayton on Sunday, 83-69, then struggled against Penn State last night in a 83-61 loss to end their season.
The Kentucky Wildcats takes on Baylor in South Bend, Ind. Saturday morning to open up week two of the tournament. The Wildcats previously blew past Wright State 106-60 and defeated Syracuse by the score of 64-59.
Texas A&M will take on DePaul in Lincoln, Neb. this weekend. The Aggies defeated North Dakota 70-55 and turned around last night and beat James Madison 85-69.
The Lady Volunteers from Tennessee are matched up against Maryland in the Louisville Region on Sunday. Tennessee opened the tournament with back-to-back wins over Northwestern State and Saint John’s.
LSU takes on Louisville on Sunday. The Lady Tigers are bracketed in the same region as Tennessee. LSU stormed through the opening rounds of the tourney this season by knocking out Georgia Tech and West Virginia.
If the Vols and the Tigers both win their games, they’ll face each other in the Elite Eight, with the winner advancing to Nashville, Tenn. for the Women’s Final Four.
South Carolina will take on North Carolina in the Stanford Region. The Gamecocks defeated CS-NorthRidge and Oregon State to get to the Sweet 16.
Yes, there is a possibility the national championship will be decided between two SEC teams.
