The 2012 college football regular season has come to end. Now it’s time for the excitement of post-season bowl games.
A college football team has to have at least six wins to become bowl eligible, and every team fights hard all season long trying to find that qualifying sixth win to extend their season by just one more game. It’s the icing on the holiday cake.
After two straight seasons of being on the outside looking in, the Ole Miss Rebels have now punched their ticket to play in a bowl game for the first time since 2009. Under Head Coach Hugh Freeze, the Rebels got their magical sixth win against in-state arch rival Mississippi State by winning 41-24 in the Egg Bowl.
Bo Wallace, the 2012 C Spire Conerly Trophy award winning quarterback, led the Rebels in the victory over the Bulldogs. Wallace threw for 294 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in the Egg Bowl.
Since the win, Rebel fans have been speculating as to which bowl game Ole Miss will be preparing for this holiday season. The Rebels are in line to receive an invitation to play in one of three possible bowls. The bowl possibilities are the AutoZone Liberty Bowl (Memphis), BBVA Compass Bowl (Birmingham, Al), and the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl (Nashville).
They’ll know soon. The announcement of the 2012 bowl selection will be made Sunday night on ESPN at 8 p.m. CT, after the BCS selection show.
Rebel fans can pre-order tickets for the bowl game by calling the Ole Miss ticket office at (662) 915-7167.
