Ole Miss Softball Set to Face ULM in Midweek Doubleheader
The Ole Miss softball team will hit the road once again as it travels south to Monroe, La., to face ULM on Wednesday in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. CT at the ULM Softball Complex.
The Rebels (15-9, 1-2 Southeastern Conference) are coming off a busy week in which they played two games in Salt Lake City on March 3, followed by two games at home March 4 and then three games on the road March 7-9 in Gainesville, Fla., to open conference play against No. 1 Florida.
Senior pitcher Carly Hummel had a fantastic week. After throwing the first perfect game in school history March 3, she pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout at Florida on Friday to record the second-ever win over a No. 1 ranked team in program history and the first since 2007. For her work, Hummel became the first Rebel since 2009 to be named SEC Pitcher of the Week.
At the plate, Ole Miss has been led by senior outfielder RT Cantillo and junior third baseman Allison Brown. Cantillo is batting a team-high .507, which ranks second in the SEC, and her 38 hits are tied for first. Brown is hitting .387 for the year with a team-high 15 runs and a team-high tying 16 RBI.
In 24 games this season, the Ole Miss pitching staff has allowed three or fewer earned runs 21 times. As a unit, Ole Miss holds a 2.05 ERA, which is the sixth lowest in the SEC.
Ole Miss will look to continue its strong play against ULM (13-7). The Warhawks boast four players with batting averages of at least .390, and have outscored their opponents by a 143-85 margin. Samantha Hamby (8-3) is ULM’s top pitcher, logging 58.0 innings and a 2.53 ERA.
The two schools last played April 17, 2013 when the Rebels defeated the Warhawks 8-0 (5) at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
