Don't Be Stationary, Get Active with Endurance Athletics
Endurance Athletics has only one requirement of its customers: don’t be stationary.
Endurance Athletics, which provides shoes and apparel for marathoners, triathletes, cross-country runners and other endurance athletes, opened in Oxford in January 2013. Co-owner Kevin McGee, a triathlete, is not shy in describing the store’s customer base.
“We are targeting anyone that wants to move; that wants to put one foot in front of the other, whether you’re a walker, marathoner, casual swimmer, or triathlete, we have everything that you need here,” McGee said. “We want people to know that are their first stop to get their fitness journey started.”
Before opening the store in Oxford, McGee and fellow co-owner and wife, Mary Burton, were looking for a change of pace from the Jackson, Miss. area.
“We wanted to make a change and move back to Oxford and wanted to be in this community and in this town,” McGee said. “This store, this type of store, is something I have dreamed about doing.”
Endurance Athletics is the only specialty running store in Oxford. It offers the top five brands in shoes and a variety of gym-wear, according to McGee.
In addition to shoes and clothing, Endurance Athletics offers a specialized program to help properly fit customers to their shoes.
“We do gait analysis on everyone, we take a look at your feet, and what your feet do when they hit the floor when you walk or stride,” McGee said. “This lets us know what type of shoe to put you in.”
The store, which carries equipment from the high school athlete level to extremely active adults, specifically targets customers in the Oxford area for now, but hope to expand in the future. Burton and McGee say they would love to branch out to other communities at some point.
“If the opportunity presents itself we would look somewhere toward Southaven and Hernando area because of the growth in those area,” McGee said. “We would like to be close enough to Oxford so we can oversee it ourselves.”
Burton and McGee are graduates of Ole Miss and keep the community in mind in their personal and professional mission statement.
“We want to be a part of the community and be looked upon as the place to go for exercise needs,” McGee said. “We want to be involved with things that are going on around us that help keep Oxford special.”
Endurance Athletics is located at 404 South Lamar Blvd. and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. More information can be found at the store’s website: https://www.enduranceathleticsoxford.com
