The Ole Miss community puts on an event every fall, “The Longest Table,” as a way to bring students, faculty, staff, and community members together.

This year’s event was held on Sunday evening.

The Longest Table is a free event that invites everyone to sit down together, share experiences, and enjoy a meal. This event creates the opportunity for the community to engage in conversation about diversity, and fellowship, and honors former students, such as James Meredith.

In order to promote inclusivity, 50 tables were set up in a row in the Circle on campus.

Chancellor Glenn Boyce spoke about his thoughts about The Longest Table and the purpose of the event.

“We’re all different people with different interests. You and only you can bring your own perspective and experiences within our community. We are all united,” he said. “We will share those experiences with each other. Let’s share our hopes and dreams. Let’s be transformative about answering questions and getting to know each other.”

The Longest Table provides a safe, inclusive space for people to freely express themselves and speak their minds. This event also provides the opportunity for new relationships and new ideas to be built.

The Ole Miss community will continue to hold this event each year and work together to develop an even more inclusive and tight-knit community.
