Ole Miss women’s golf wrapped up the opening round of action at the NCAA Athens Regional on Monday, as the Rebels’ scorecard of 297 (+9) put the team in a tie for sixth heading into day two.

After a one-hour weather delay pushed back the Rebels’ tee time, the Ole Miss squad was able to bounce back from a slow start to tally a total of 12 birdies in the opening round at UGA Golf Course. The Rebels were also one of only two teams to end the day with an eagle after senior Andrea Lignell sank one on the par-4 11th.

Chiara Tamburlini led the charge for the Rebels, ending her opening round with a 70 (-2) after tallying a tournament-leading six birdies on Monday. Despite sitting three-over at the turn, the St. Gallen, Switzerland, native came alive to shoot a bogey-free back nine that included five birdies, shooting her up into a tie for fourth place.

Andrea Lignell sits narrowly outside of the Top 20 heading into round two, as the senior finished day one with a 74 (+2) in Athens. Lignell heads into day two with two birdies to her name, as well as being one of just two golfers in attendance with an eagle so far.

Fellow senior Elle Johnson also paced the Rebels with a consistent round of 75 (+3) to open the week, shooting par on 15 of her 18 holes of action on the day. Johnson enters round two tied for 30th, playing in what is her first taste of NCAA Regional action in her four-year playing career.

Rounding out the Rebel lineup was the underclassman duo of Natacha Host Husted and Nicole Gal, who both shot rounds of 78 (+6). The Denmark and Canada natives will now begin round two tied for 48th overall.

Ole Miss returns to action tomorrow morning for round two from the University of Georgia Golf Course. Tee times for the Rebels are currently set to start at 7:03 a.m. CT.
