Oxford Adult Entertainment Ordinance is Preventive Measure
The Oxford Planning Commission voted earlier this month to recommend passage of a proposed adult entertainment ordinance. But Oxford Mayor Pat Patterson described the action as “housekeeping” and not an indication Oxford is going to be hosting strip clubs or other adult businesses anytime soon.
“It’s simply not possible under the law for us to zone out these kind of businesses,” Mayor Patterson explained. “This is a routine action to resolve an oversight in our city ordinances that prescribe where adult businesses can legally operate.”
Courts have ruled that municipalities my prevent adult businesses from opening inappropriately close to schools, churches, day-care centers and single family housing.
The mayor was quick to add that the measure is purely preventive, and Oxford is not currently dealing with any adult businesses hoping to locate here.
