Lady Rebels Drop Game to Central Arkansas
On Sunday afternoon the Ole Miss Lady Rebels basketball team played host to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears.When the ball was tipped up in the air the Rebels looked to be in control with a 37-27 lead at halftime but in the second half Central Arkansas outscored Ole Miss 39-26 to win the game 66-63.
Ole Miss (1-1) took control of the game in the first half by breaking a 2-2 tie by a field goal from Shequila Jospeh to go up 4-2 with the Rebels never looking back in the first half. The largest lead that the Rebels would have in the first half would be by ten points.
Valencia McFarland lead the way for Ole Miss in the first half with scoring 11 points and having three assist.
Central Arkansas (2-0) came out in the second half cutting the Rebel lead and tied the game at 48 a piece with 10:59 left to go in the contest. After a steal by Brianna Mullins on Tia Faleru, Mullins scored the go ahead 50-48 layup at 10:40 left in the game. The Sugar Bears pushed their lead up by seven points before Ole Miss’ Joseph drains a three to bring the Rebels back within four points with just 52 seconds left on the game clock.
With just 23 seconds in the game, Joseph would bring the Rebels within a single bucket 63-64 of taking the lead back. Central Arkansas missed a free-throw with just 17 seconds on the game clock giving Ole Miss an opportunity to go go down and get the win. Claudia Ortiz missed a three pointer and Faleru missed a put back. Ole Miss then had to foul with a second left and the Sugar Bears made both free-throws.
Ole Miss had three players to score double digits in the game Joseph (14), McFarland (13) and Faleru (10).
