OPD Releases Plan for Halloween
In a press release sent to HottyToddy.com, the Oxford Police Department announces its plan for Halloween, including tips on how to stay safe while trick-or-treating. The press release reads as follows:
Oxford Police Department Announces Halloween Plan
In the past and on very few occasions, the City of Oxford has rescheduled Halloween festivities well in advance of the date due to safety concerns from large crowds related to home football games at the University. At this time, Halloween will not be rescheduled.
We would suggest parents use their best judgement when taking their children out to trick-or-treat and keep and eye out for the perilous weather. Updates can be found on the National Weather Service website: www.weather.gov.
The Oxford Police Department would recommend the following safety tips for a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience:
– Wear reflective clothing or attach reflective strips to costumes.
– Carry a flashlight.
– Parents escort your children around neighborhoods and encourage them to WALK, not run.
– Remember the visual obstruction masks can cause to the wearer, face paint is a good alternative.
– Always stay on sidewalks and use crosswalks when crossing the street.
– If sidewalks are not available, stay on the edge of the road and walk facing traffic.
– Drivers, please stay alert and use extra caution when driving through popular trick-or-treating areas.
