Nikhazy a Semifinalist for Golden Spikes Award, Vote by June 15

Ole Miss junior pitcher Doug Nikhazy has been tabbed as a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award on Tuesday.

The Golden Spikes Award is given annually to the top amateur college baseball player.

This season, the southpaw leads Ole Miss with an 11-2 record and a 2.39 ERA over 86.2 innings of work with 132 strikeouts to 28 walks. Nikhazy is holding his opponents to a .180 batting average.

In his start on Saturday against Florida State in the Oxford Regional, Nikhazy tied the Ole Miss single-game strikeout record with 16, matching a mark with Drew Pomeranz (09), Eral Siedel (62) and Jamey Price (95).

In SEC play, Nikhazy posted a 1.67 ERA and a 7-1 record over 59.1 innings pitched with 85 strikeouts and 19 walks to earn First Team All-SEC honors.

Against in-state rival Mississippi State, Nikhazy threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout on the road in front of the largest on-campus crowds in college baseball this season. 

Nikhazy is on the list with 25 other semifinalists who will try to become one of five finalists for the award. 

Fan voting will once again be a part of the Golden Spikes Award in 2021. Beginning with the semifinalist announcement and continuing through the June 15 finalist round voting deadline, fans from across the country will vote for their favorite player on GoldenSpikesAward.com.
