LHS Choir Will take New York By Storm
The Lafayette High School Choir, under the direction of Kim Gregory, will travel to New York City in March to sing in the National Youth Choir at Carnegie Hall. Students and chaperones must raise $1500 each to pay for the trip, which will cost about $80,000.
Students have been fundraising since May and have done everything from car washes to dinners, talent shows and selling raffle tickets. Presently the group is selling raffle tickets on a 2013 Landmaster utility vehicle and a Remington shot gun, both to be given away November 1.
Landmaster tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25 and the gun tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.Tickets are available at all home football games and at the Abbeville Fall Festival on October 12 or in front of Rebel Rags on October 19.
Their next big fundraiser is a Fall Festival on Saturday, October 26 at Lafayette High School. There will be food, games and prizes, a 22-foo tall mega double slide and a dragon obstacle course and “redneck railroad” train. Admission is $1 and tickets for games are $1. Armbands will be available for $10 for the slide and obstacle course. Donations can be made in the form of a check to LHS Choir at 160 Commodore Dr., Oxford.
The Choir’s annual fall concert is scheduled Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at the North Oxford Baptist Church. Admission is $3 per person and all proceeds go to support the Choir’s New York trip.
