Ole Miss: A Photographic Essay

A new coffee table book, Ole Miss: A Photographic Essay (Nautilus Publishing; $42), hits bookstores this week. As Chancellor Dan Jones writes in his introduction to the book, “It is difficult, probably impossible, to go very far on the campus of the University of Mississippi without being awed by the enchanting beauty of this place.”

Jones captures the feelings of anyone who has ever loved Ole Miss, just as this book of photographs captures the true beauty of Oxford and the Ole Miss campus.

Last year, Ole Miss was voted “Most Beautiful Campus” by Newsweek. More recently, the Oxford campus was ranked as one of the “50 Most Amazing College Campuses for 2013” by The Best Colleges.

Contributing photographers include Robert Jordan, Kevin Bain and Nathan Latil. Nautilus Publishing Creative Director & Publisher Neil White said, “Yes, Ole Miss has a beautiful campus, but the university is also blessed with three of the most talented photographers I’ve ever encountered. The combination makes for a stunning coffee-table book.”

The oversized book contains 100+ extraordinary images captured over the last decade, in addition to dozens of quotes about Ole Miss from noted celebrities, athletes, journalists, writers and alumni.

Chancellor Jones added that the beauty of Ole Miss “is a tremendous asset that helps us attract the best faculty and students.”

Jeff McManus, Director of Landscape Services for the University of Mississippi, agreed: “Studies show that 62 percent of prospective college students make a decision on whether or not they will attend a university within the first 15 minutes of their visit.”
