After suffering some depth issues due to injury and COVID-19, Ole Miss’ offensive line is finally starting to look like itself as the Rebels near their season opener.

Media members received access to redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jeremy James on Friday, and James commented on the state of his position group heading into game week.

“Since this last week, we’ve gotten a few guys back, and numbers are getting back to where we need them to be,” James said.

Ole Miss has some experience on its offensive front but will also be relying on youth like James throughout the season. Although the line has been plagued by issues throughout camp, James believes that they have some versatility within the room.

“I think we have 10 or 11 guys who can play whenever they need to,” James said.

As far as James himself, he has spent most of his time at right guard during fall camp but has also gotten some looks at right tackle.

“I’m excited about it,” James said. “I think this group is going to be really special this year. What’s cool about it is that each of us can play two or maybe three positions if we need to.”

In an unconventional season in the world of COVID-19, player versatility has been a focus by the Rebel coaching staff to ensure that athletes can move around if necessary should injuries or positive tests strike during the campaign.

“It’s obviously going to be more important,” James said. “You’ve got to be ready for whatever happens. We really don’t know what situation we’re going to be put in. I think it’s more important this year than it has been.”

Ole Miss will open its season at home on Saturday at 11 a.m. against nationally-ranked Florida.
