Powerhouse Gallery Series Looking for Submissions

PowerhouseApplications being accepted from artists to have works shown at Powerhouse.

The Powerhouse Community Arts Center is preparing to open its doors and walls to any local artist who would like to submit for the 2014 gallery series. The Powerhouse Gallery Series is designed to provide artists with the opportunity to exhibit throughout the year. Each exhibit is highlighted with a reception during the monthly art crawl.

“This process was launched in partnership with the artists of our community three years ago,” says Stacey Sanford, outreach and education coordinator at the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council. “The program works to provide exposure to as many artist as possible by offering a variety of exhibit opportunities during the year.”

For weeks, YAC has been collecting ideas for the series, but it is finally time to open submissions to local artists. Any artist is welcome to submit an application, complete with three images, in hopes of being selected to hang along the walls of the Powerhouse.

The submission process has been streamlined this year, with applications being completed as an email and submitted to YAC at OutreachYAC@gmail.com. “We hope this new process will make it easier to keep track of all the submissions, communicate with artists, and provide a quick turnaround in the selection process,” says Sanford, who is heading the submission campaign. “Of course, if anyone has any questions people are welcome to call the Powerhouse and I can help them along the way.”

The first round of applications were emailed out on Friday, August 2, 2013 to everyone on the YAC email list, as well as to local groups and organizations. “We try to reach as many people as possible every year,” says Wayne Andrews, YAC director. “It is important that everything from the ideas for the shows and the work that hangs comes from our community and everyone is given a chance to participate.”
