Rash of Oxford Burglaries Leads to Three Arrests

An investigation into a rash of vehicle burglaries and a home burglary led investigators with the Oxford Police Department to make three arrests Monday.

According to reports, at about 6 a.m. Monday, multiple reports of vehicle burglary starting coming into OPD. By the end of the day, officers were investigating 14 vehicle burglaries and one home burglary.

Investigators worked through the night following tips and leads that came into the department. Eventually, they obtained enough evidence to get a search warrant on a residence in Garden Terrace on Tuesday.

After serving the warrant, investigators discovered most of the reported stolen items from Monday, items reported stolen in 2017 and various narcotics.

Justin Towler, 24 and Kimberly Adams, 28, both of Oxford were found inside the residence and taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center. Officers apprehended Chester Gipson, 23 of Abbeville, later that afternoon.

OPD charged Towler with 14 counts of auto burglary, one count of residential burglary, one count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, one count of possession of stolen property. The Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit charged him with two counts possession of a controlled substance. Towler was given a bond of $150,000.

Gipson was charged by OPD with 14 counts of auto burglary, one count of residential burglary, and one count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He was given a bond of $100,000.

Metro Narcotics charged Adams with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and OPD charged her with one count of possession of stolen property. She was given a bond of $50,000.

“We would like to remind everyone that the holiday season is approaching fast and to take this time to remember to lock your doors and remove valuables from sight,” said OPD Interim Chief Jeff McCutchen. “Remember, if you see something, say something. We will respond no matter what.”
