The weekend was a busy one for local police in Oxford, but nothing they weren’t prepared for during a home game between the Ole Miss Rebels and the LSU Tigers.
“Overall, we had a good weekend,” said Oxford Interim Police Chief Jeff McCutchen. “We saw a large number of people out and about but it was a good weekend. We did not have any major events.”
OPD officers made 52 arrests Friday through Sunday which included 10 DUIs and 28 for public drunkenness.
McCutchen said most of the alcohol-related arrests occurred around the downtown Square.
“We did not have any checkpoints set up,” he added.
Officers investigated 26 reports of disturbing the peace and 32 wrecks around the city of Oxford.
On the University of Mississippi campus, officers arrested five people for public drunkenness and responded to 11 reports of an intoxicated person and 18 ambulances were requested due to an intoxicated person.
The Tigers beat the Rebels 58 to 37 during the 6 p.m. game at Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium.
