Calling all runners! The fourth annual Oxford High School Glow Run is set to take place Saturday, Nov. 2.
The Glow 5K Run and Party, which raises money for the Oxford High Band, takes place at the school. This year, the pre-party will begin at 5 p.m. and the run kicks off at 6 p.m.
“Oxford High puts its own twist on the fun run,” said Greg Surbeck, a volunteer coordinator and OHS band parent.
Glowsticks are handed out and there will be a light show accompanying the music during the run. Whether you want to run or walk, participants are encouraged to wear glow-in-the-dark clothes and accessories.
Members of the band will be performing during the race, too, which gives the community a chance to see the talent benefited by this fundraiser.
“The vision for this fundraiser is one of opportunity. It provides scholarships for the kids and opens the door for students to go to college,” Surbeck says.
The event also provides support for the OHS band to attend competitions around the country.
Rich Raspet, an active runner, participated in last year’s run. He says that the event is “family-oriented and companionable.”
The race is on a fast, flat loop course at Oxford High School. It is chip-timed. Avid runners, serious walkers, casual joggers, and everyone in between are welcome.
You can register for the race or just make a donation right up until Saturday, Nov. 2.
