Choral Groups Request Photos of Service Members for Veterans Day Tribute
This year on Veterans Day, the musical forces of the University of Mississippi Chorus and Orchestra and the Oxford Civic Chorus will join together for a musical salute to all veterans of the United States military. To celebrate, the choral groups are calling on the community to send in photos of their loved ones who valiantly served their country.
This community event will feature many patriotic musical favorites including “America, the Beautiful,” “Salute to the Armed Forces,” “My Country Tis of Thee,” “This is My Country,” and “God Bless America.” Submitted photos of past and current service members will be shown in a video along to the music.
In addition to the musical offerings, special tributes will be presented including honoring current University of Mississippi student veterans, the veterans at the Veterans Home of Mississippi in Oxford, and a special salute to veterans of loved ones and friends of local Oxford and Lafayette county citizens and of current Ole Miss students.
“We have participated in the annual ceremony at the Veterans Home here in Oxford for 17 years, but this year we are expanding our tribute by offering this community concert and hope many will want to come and be part as we honor America and our veterans,” said Donald Trott, University of Mississippi Chorus conductor.
For citizens and students who would like to have their loved one or friend honored in the choir’s tribute video, please send a photo with name, rank, and branch of service to Trott at dtrott@olemiss.edu.
“We will be sure to include them,” Trott said.
The concert takes places Monday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Admission is free and all are encouraged to attend.
