Oxford’s Hottest Halloween Costumes for 2019

Halloween is quickly creeping up on Oxford and some of the most popular costume picks are coming straight from the big screen.
“College students are loving it,” said Norma Prewitt, manager of Jo’s Costume Shop. “The spikes have been good for IT and the Joker. This year’s popular costumes also include Star Wars, Cleopatra, race car drivers, food items, Buzz, Michael Myers, Freddie Kreuger, Pinhead, and gorillas.”
According to Google Trends, in Mississippi, searches for IT costumes were already increasing even before IT: Chapter Two came out Sept. 6. When Joker premiered Oct. 4, that launched a searches duel between the two within the state.
FreightGeist, which visualizes data from the top 500 Google Trends searches for costumes in the U.S., recently ranked the IT costume as No. 1 nationally and the Joker costume as No. 27.
Not everyone wants to be part of a larger trend, though, according to Prewitt.
“People enjoy dressing up to simply have fun,” Prewitt said. “Scaring a few people is fun; it’s just part of enjoying life.”
Wade Johnson, an Oxonian, said that she dresses up for Halloween every year and goes all-in with her costumes. This year, Johnson hinted that her costume might be dressing as a peach with an ‘M’ on it, a joke suggesting “impeach” when said out loud.
“People, college kids included, love an excuse to spice up a party,” Johnson said. “Costumes let us all be in on the fun. Some of us get creative, some of us get sexy, but no matter what it all flies.”
Jo’s Costume Shop, a family-owned business, has been open at its current location on University Avenue since 2006. It began as a hobby when owner Jo Prewitt started making costumes for family and friends more than 60 years ago.
Prewitt compares going to her shop to playing dress-up in your grandmother’s attic.
“You can be anything you can imagine,” she said.
The shop is located at 2524 University Ave. Costumes are available for rent only.

Tomorrow is Halloween, and I’m still in the process of creating my costume. It’s good that I have free time because I entrusted my homework in mathematics to a special service https://ca.edubirdie.com/math-problems-writing-service because I have some problems in college.
