The Ole Miss Rebels step back into conference action this weekend as they travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide at 2:30 p.m. on CBS.
Head Coach Matt Luke held his weekly press conference on Monday to discuss the SEC western division tilt.
Ole Miss (2-2, 1-0 SEC) is coming off a tough 28-20 loss to the California Golden Bears. Luke said his team played well at times against Cal but not at the consistency they needed to win against good football teams.
“We’ll certainly need that this week – the consistency and the attention to detail heading into Tuscaloosa,” he said.
In the loss, QB Matt Corral went out late in the fourth quarter with a rib injury.
“Matt is dealing with bruised ribs after further evaluation and is day-to-day,” Luke said. “He was out there yesterday…didn’t do a whole lot. He’ll be out there tomorrow. We’ll know more after practice tomorrow.”
Freshman QB John Rhys Plumlee came in and went 7-for-7 for 82 yards in the air and 52 yards on the ground to help lead the Rebels on a drive that could’ve possibly tied the game with a successful two point conversion.
“(Plumlee) showed he can go out there and handle himself. He brought a spark into the stadium and on the sideline,” Luke said. “You hope that Matt is healthy and they have to prepare for both of them. That is the goal – to get them healthy and have both of them available.”
Luke said if Corral is healthy there is a good possibility fans will see the Rebels utilize both quarterbacks against Alabama.
Fans can watch all the action Saturday on CBS or listen to the call on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
