Cause of Death of Oxford Man Still Unknown

The family of Homer Myers still have few answers as to why their loved one was found dead under a bridge off Highway 7 South almost two weeks ago.

Myers, 73, went missing around Aug. 24. He was last seen at his home in Twin Gates where he lived with family. He worked as a security guard in Water Valley on the third shift. Family learned he never showed up for work that night.

On Sept. 8, police responded to the Yocona River bridge on Highway 7 South after someone reported finding a deceased man. Myers’ body was discovered under the bridge.

His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Jackson for an autopsy; however, the autopsy has not yet revealed what happened to Myers – how he died or why he was under the bridge.

According to OPD Interim Chief Jeff McCutchen the autopsy has the cause of death listed as “undetermined” at this time.

“They have sent off for a toxicology report,” McCutchen told Hottytoddy.com Wednesday.

Myers had no vehicle the night he went missing and was not suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, according to family.

Myers was born in Pontotoc and served 18 months in Vietnam in the U.S. Marine Corps. He then served 14 years in the United States Army Corps. After his service in the military, he trained students in driving trucks and transportation for more than 30 years, according to his obituary from Coleman Funeral Home.
