Oxford Crime & Emergency Reports from Sept. 13-15, 2019

The following reports were made Sept. 13-15, 2019, by city, university and county law enforcement agencies, unless otherwise noted.

Oxford Police Department issued 84 tickets, investigated 22 wrecks and the following reports:
1 911 hang-ups
20 alarms
3 animal complaints
8 careless driving complaints
1 civil matter
1 credit card fraud
1 cyberstalking
1 discharging fireworks in city limits
16 disturbing the peace complaints
1 domestic disturbance
2 harassments
4 improper parking complaints
1 K-9 search
1 larceny
3 lost properties
3 malicious mischief complaints
4 motorist assists
3 other agency assists
2 property damages
1 shoplifting
4 simple assaults
17 suspicious activities
6 suspicious people
3 suspicious vehicles
I utility call
1 vagrancy
1 vehicle search
12 welfare checks

Officers made the following arrests:
2 DUIs
2 DUIs and careless driving
1 DUI, careless driving, suspended driver’s license and no insurance
1 DUI, careless driving, no driver’s license and speeding
1 DUI, careless driving and possession of a drug paraphernalia
1 DUI and domestic disturbance
1 DUI and expired tag
1 DUI, expired tag and wrong way on a one-way road
1 DUI and running a red light
1 DUI and failure to dim lights
1 failure to comply with an officer
1 littering
4 minors in possession of alcohol
1 minor in possession of alcohol and fake ID
1 minor in possession of alcohol, fake ID and open container
2 for possession of drug paraphernalia
1 possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding
1 possession of drug paraphernalia and no headlights
1 possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule 1 drug, possession of a firearm by felon and K-9 search
4 public drunks
1 public drunk and possession of drug paraphernalia
1 public drunk, possession of a schedule 2 drug and warrant served
1 public drunk and simple assault
1 suspended driver’s license and no insurance
1 warrant served

Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department made no arrests, investigated two wrecks and the following reports:

5 disturbances
2 follow-ups
1 harassment
2 informational reports
2 juvenile complaints
2 malicious mischiefs
1 noise complaint

University Police Department investigated three wrecks and the following reports:
1 disturbing the peace
2 larcenies
7 wreck
1 simple assault
2 service calls – informational
25 ambulance requested
1 possession of alcohol by a person under 21
1 vandalism
2 petty theft

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
9/13 – 10:54 a.m. – University-Oxford Airport – employee fainted – he was awake and alert upon arrival – monitored vitals until EMS arrived
9/13 – 6:38 – Tri Delta House room 102 – hairdryer activated the smoke detector
9/14 – 12:17 p.m. – Deaton Hall – a sprinkler head fell while residents were playing Lacrosse in the hallway, which activated an alarm
9/14 – 12:24 p.m. – Sigma Chi house basement – having a party and someone pulled the fire alarm pull station as a prank
9/14 – 8:10 a.m. – 1 Harris Grove – a breaker in the bedroom tripped activating the smoke detector – FD advised them to call and electrician
9/14 – 8:56 a.m. – 130 Garden Terrace – bad battery in the smoke detector
9/14 – 9:53 a.m. – 119 Twin Oaks – resident cooking and activated a smoke detector
9/14 – 11:46 a.m. – Highway 7 North – southbound side – small grass fire – a cement truck had already extinguished the fire
9/14 – 2:30 p.m. – The Retreat – flowerbed fire – the fire was out upon arrival
9/14 – 8:18 p.m. – Highway 6 West – wreck with injuries – FD check for injuries and stood by for EMS
9/15 – 08:49 a.m. – South Residential College – caller advised someone was stuck on an elevator – call unfounded
