The Lafayette Commodores remain on the road this Friday evening as they travel to Southaven to challenge the Chargers on the gridiron. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
Lafayette (1-0) is coming off a strong offensive win over Cleveland Central last Friday 35-14.
“It was some good experience for our young guys,” head coach Micheal Fair said. “We are young at some places on the team and they handled it really well.”
Lafayette and Cleveland Central had an hour and 15-minute lightning delay during the contest.
“(The team) played solid and handled all of that adversity really well,” Fair said.
Sophomore quarterback Tyrus Carmichael-Williams took a good number of snaps under center, according to Fair, and two senior tailbacks—Xzavious Stokes and Issac Vaughn—stood out in the matchup against Wolves.
Southaven (0-1) welcomes Lafayette in for their 2019 home opener after falling to Houston (Germantown, Tennessee) 36-12 last week.
The Chargers lit up the scoreboard in the second quarter with all 12 points scored during that period. They found pay dirt once through the air and once on the ground but missed the PAT and two-point conversion.
“(Southaven) is one of the more talented teams that we will play this year,” he said. “They have D1 talent scattered all over the field and are very well-coached.”
