OHS Dance Team Earns Bid to National Competition
The OHS Dance Team recently returned from the Universal Dance Association (UDA) camp which took place June 9-12 at Mississippi State University. The team, like their counterparts the OHS cheer team, receive multiple accolades at the summer camp.
The team competed with a home routine that is evaluated on execution, choreography and overall effect. The Chargerettes earned 1st place in the Large Varsity Division, earning the top score (9 out of 10 stars) in their division. This landed the Chargerettes a bid to compete at the National Competition in Orlando, Florida.
At the UDA camp, dancers learn two different routines on which they were evaluated individually in front of an audience made up of the UDA staff, all campers, family and friends. In addition, the dancers attended technique stations, team building activities, drill down competitions, and spirit building each day.
“I can’t wait to see them perform at pep rallies, halftimes, State Competition, Nationals, and on the sidelines throughout the coming season,” stated Chargerettes Head Coach, Robyn Lyons. “It is going to be a successful year for these girls.”
The OHS Chargerettes returned to Oxford decorated with the following awards:
1st Place: Home Routine for Large Varsity Division- Pom Routine
Superior Trophy for Evaluations: 38 Superior Ribbons (out of 40) on evaluations. Earned invitation to perform at the Citrus Bowl half-time show.
