As the Ole Miss softball team prepares to host an NCAA Regional on Friday, teammates Kylan Becker and Molly Jacobsen are hitting the field with a new accolade. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Tuesday the two were selected to All-Region Teams.
Becker was selected to the All-South Region First Team, becoming Ole Miss’ sixth-ever first-team recipient. It is the second all-region honor for the senior, who was named to the third team in 2017.
Jacobsen was one of two pitchers who garnered All-South Region Second Team honors.
The recognition comes shortly after both players were among a group of four Rebels to be named All-SEC, with Becker earning the first-team distinction and Jacobsen earning a spot on the second team.
Becker currently leads the SEC with hits, ranking third in the conference with a .411 batting average. The outfielder leads the league and ranks fifth in the nation with five triples, 48 runs scored and driving in 26 more. Becker has proven to be one of the fastest players in the SEC, ranking third in the league with 28 steals.
In her first season in Oxford, Jacobsen becomes the fourth pitcher in program history to be named all-region, joining Kaitlin Lee (2017), Madi Osias (2016) and Mary Jane Callahan (2007). The junior has posted a 13-6 record with a 1.97 ERA in 145.1 innings, ranking sixth in the league with 143 strikeouts. The former junior college pitcher posted two of the three longest, scoreless inning streaks in program history in 2019.
