“Blasian Junkie” Gets Creative with Lyrics as Up-and-Coming Rapper

Jordan Browder, a local up-and-coming rapper, is known by his stage name “Blasian Junkie.” He always had an ear for music growing up, which eventually led to him to pursue his dream of a prolific rap career.

Browder started chasing his rap aspirations during middle school with a few friends after school, rapping and engineering his creations on his laptop. He said that during this time rap was how he coped with the struggles of life. He came from a broken home where living in a household with both parents together “was like time travel, basically impossible.”

Making music soon became his passion.

As a student at the University of Mississippi, Browder built up his fan base from doing shows alongside some of his closest friends who are also up-and-coming in the music industry. Often times his weekends are spent performing at a club or on college campuses.

“I’m constantly working with my mind to release all thoughts of worry or irritation. I try not to complain, not to stress over what can go wrong, and to check myself whenever I feel something is compromising my good mood,” he said.

The rapper describes his music as being chill with a nice beat, and “something you can’t help but to bob your head to.” A goal is for his music to touch and ignite change in people as his musical inspirations, Biggie and Jay-Z, have done for him.

He knows that the road to musical success isn’t necessarily an easy process, but that doesn’t seem to bother him. He’s all about going with the flow. Now, it’s all about getting to the place where he wants to be so he can make enough to provide for himself and his one-year-old daughter, Dawson.

Browder says energy and vibes play a big part in the creation of his songs and how he goes about his way of life.

“I love being around great energy while recording. It makes the songs come out better when I record pumped up with energy. You can even tell the difference in the final production of the song,” he said.

Browder works with a local music producer, Andrew, who goes by the name, “Trippy Booth,” who he credits for finding his perfect sound and flow. The two met through Browder’s producer and engineer, Jackson Maddox. The two of them were once in a band together in Oxford. Andrew soon left the band to start photography, which eventually led to videography. His first-ever music video was Browder’s collective, “The Cornerstone.”

“Andrew has really changed my life in a sense. He is my manager now and has showed me that I can really make this happen. He’s to credit for how confident I have become in my career. We won’t be stuck here in Mississippi for too much longer,” he said.

Browder’s best friend, Chauncey Taylor, is also an upcoming artist who truly believes in the work he is doing. Taylor is one of those who influenced Browder to start taking his music career seriously after inviting him to a studio session one afternoon.

“The biggest thing about Jordan is that he never quits. He may get tripped up sometimes and become unmotivated, but he never lets it stop him completely. I think that is what is going to make him successful in this industry – his determination to never stop grinding,” Taylor said.

Browder said he wants his audience to use his music as a tool to get through hard times. 

“Work every day. Even if it’s just writing one song a day or a verse every other day. Utilize your free time and keep music as a top priority,” he said. “It is very easy to become lazy, and that is a hard habit to get rid of because you should want to grind every single day until you get to where you want to be. I have to make it for myself, for my kid.”
