The Ole Miss softball team clinched the series against the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday with a 4-1 victory.
Prior to the game the Rebels honored three seniors in Izzy Werdann, Brittany Finney and Kylan Becker.
Ole Miss’ starter Molly Jacobsen was electric in the circle against the Vols. She threw a complete game only allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts and a walk.
Coach Mike Smith’s club got off to an early start in the first inning by scoring three runs in the frame. Becker got started with a base knock followed up by one off the bat of Abbey Latham. Becker would come into score on a pass ball. A few batters later in the Rebels would tack on two more as Jessica Puk doubled to center.
After coming in to play at first at the start of the top of the sixth, Gabby Alvarez gave Ole Miss some insurance in the bottom half of the frame, tagging a double to right-center to bring Gillespie all the way around from first.
Tennessee found a way to scratch across a run in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate.
The Rebels have now won all six SEC series this season and sit alone at second in the conference.
Ole Miss and Tennessee return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. on ESPU.
