The Oxford community is once again rallying for two of its own members. Southern Coop is set to host a fundraiser for DeChristian “DC” Cummings and Daquosha Moody on Wednesday, May 8 after the tragic loss of their parents, Anthony Patrick Hampton and Tanya Mathis, last month.
The wing restaurant will donate 25 percent of all sales from that day to Moody and Cummings.
Cummings recently graduated from Oxford High School last year and is currently enrolled at Northwest Mississippi Community College. With both children young adults, and Cummings still being in college, a financial burden is looming.
A GoFundMe account has been set up by OSD teacher Angie Wilfawn. It has garnered almost $10,290 of $30,000 goal as of Friday afternoon.
Jennifer Hudson, owner of Southern Coop, said the restaurant saw that the family was hurting and decided to contribute to lifting the financial burden from their shoulders.
“We wanted to be a valued member of the community,” Hudson said.
The fundraiser will be an all-day event.
After the loss of his parents, Cups of Oxford held a fundraiser in which it donated sales to the family, as well.
“It’s a blessing,” Cummings said to Hottytoddy.com last month in regard of the community’s support. “I want to thank God for leading the way. There’s always a good end to a bad story and I just want to thank the community for all they have done for me and my family.”
